My Story

Whilst pregnant with her second child, my mum found out that she had contracted a virus called CMV which would cause complications with the baby. When Josh was born, he was not given a long life expectancy due to his condition, however the miracle that he is meant he lived an amazing life for 26 years, and was the most happy, gentle and sweet boy you could ever meet. Every challenge he encountered he took in his stride and his big smile never left his face.

Sadly, Josh passed away in July last year following a short illness. In his memory, myself, my girlfriend Fi, and 3 close family friends (Beth, Jane and Amy) are running the great north run for CMV action, the charity that supported my mum and Josh throughout his life. It is 10 years since my Mum, Dad and their friends, Peter and Eileen (Beth, Jane and Amy’s parents) ran the race for CMV action too, so we are honoured to now follow in their footsteps.

They do incredible work for families who are affected by the virus and are supported by medical professionals, one day hoping to provide a vaccine to pregnant women affected. This charity is really close to my family’s heart, although we would never have changed Josh and the person he was, the work CMV action are doing to prevent babies being affected by the virus is so touching and we want to do all we can to help.

Thank you for taking time to read my story and please donate if you can 🙏🏻.
