My Story
Pseudomyxoma Peritonei
In December 2024 we discovered that an ovarian cyst that had developed during several rounds of IVF treatment proved to be tumorous. The tumour had originated in Kate's appendix and she was subsequently given a diagnosis of PMP. The cancer can be aggressive but fortunately we have been told that it is of a lower grade, however the treatment is still invasive. PMP does not spread through the blood or lymphatic system but instead spreads through a lining covering all of the organs in the lower abdomen. This is how it has spread to her ovaries. Kate is undergoing a surgery which will remove her appendix and potentially several other organs whilst having chemotherapy delivered directly to all of her organs there. We have to relocate to Basingstoke for a number of weeks so she can be treated by one of only two specialist teams who deal with this 1 in a million cancer diagnosis.
It has obviously been immensely stressful for both of us and our families but we need to keep on keeping on and fight this together. I'm running the Great North Run in September in honour of my wife who has been through so much but still lives each day with such strength, love and support. But also to raise awareness and money for a charity we never knew existed until only a few months ago.
If you could find a few quid to help us support our nominated charity Pseudomyxoma Survivor, a charity whose turnover is dwarfed in comparison to some, we would be forever grateful.
