My Story

About Oli's Journey

In 2012 we were pregnant from our first baby. Unfortunately, my waters broke at 29.5 weeks and it was such a scary time. Our son Oli was born 9.5 weeks prematurely at the RVI in Newcastle. Even though the staff could not have been more supportive, being a first time mum and going through such a roller coaster with a baby in an incubater in the NICU was absolutely heartbreaking. Tiny Lives was there to support us during this time.

We were so so lucky to be given a room to stay in Crawford House. This is one of the homes-from-home run by the Sick Children's Trust in Newcastle, just a few minutes away from the Children's Hospital. Staying there meant I did not have to travel every single day up and down to the RVI and I could go and see Oli, even in the middle of the night, if he or I needed it.

Seeing first hand how important these charities are when your child is premature or ill made us want to give back, even after all these years. So when I got through the first ballot and found out I was in to run my first half marathon I knew straight away which charities to support.

I had not run for 16 years (and even then no more than 5K) and had become a real couch potato, so this was the start of a real adventure. I am building up my running strenght and am determined to go over the finish line of one of the world's most famous half marathons. Please support me in raising money for these amazing local charities that are so close to the hearts of my family and those of many others in the North East.
