My Story

What am I doing??

WAY Widowed And Young has been described as a club no-one wants to be eligible to join, but when you do you're so glad you found it. For many members it is a lifeline in the fog surrounding early widowhood and beyond.

We all have our own unique stories - the common fact is simply that we lost our partners at a relatively young age - but WAY provides a connection to others who can understand at least some of what we're experiencing. The relief of being around people who "get it" is immense.

I lost my husband quite suddenly when we were both 44 years old... and as time passes I'm very aware of the numbers of young widow(er)s joining our ranks all the time. I'd love to help WAY Widowed And Young to support them too.

Running has been one way I've tried to build my mental health. Andrew was cheering me on when I ran my first 10k, and I'd started training for my first half marathon by the time he died. The 2025 Great North Run is a few days after his 7th anniversary but I know he'd still be encouraging me to keep going and kicking me out the door when I needed an extra push...

So I'll imagine he's doing just that as I train to get back to half marathon distance, and I'd be hugely grateful for sponsors to give me even more motivation.

Please consider donating to WAY as you picture me slogging along the road... I need the push!
