My Story
My story:
On the 7th September I will be running the Great North Run for the Action Foundation, an award-winning charity located in Newcastle upon Tyne, the neighbouring city to my university home of Durham.
Having faced numerous health adversities in recent years which has prevent me from being able to run, I am taking on this challenge to push myself and prove those who doubted me recovering and getting to the point I am at wrong! Running is the one sport I have had a passion for since I was little (watching the athletics during the 2012 Olympic Games) and want to do little Sophie proud!
I am running for the Action Foundation, who take action to support and empower vulnerable refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants facing exclusion and aid local community integration. Their efforts have changed lives though the provision of accomodation, language and employability support, youth and family support work and 1:1 advice sessions. Their service is provided by both volunteers and staff, of which 32% have experience of migration, which provisions a deeper level of understnading. In the last year alone, they have supported 3,200 individuals! The benefit of their provsions are reflected by 100% benefit feedback on numerous service surveys.
The life-changing support the Action Foundation provides not only needs recognition but their efforts are enabling prosperous futures for individuals, which everyone deserves to have! As an individual who is striving for social justice and equity in the world, I am proud to be running for this charity and hope to contribute to the outstanding work they do.
I thank you in advance, and am truly grateful for any support you can provide, even if it is just shaing my story around!
Sophie :)
